Thonglor (Sukhumvit Soi 55) and Ekkamai (Soi 63) are where young, well-off Bangkok eats and goes out. Expect specialty coffee, Japanese restaurants, hidden cocktail bars and community malls rather than big sights.
Why stay here
- Best café and restaurant density in the city.
- Quieter and more residential than Nana–Asok, but still on the BTS.
- Ekkamai Bus Terminal makes weekend trips to Pattaya and Koh Samet easy.
What to do
- Café-hop along Thonglor and Ekkamai — many double as co-working spots.
- Cocktail bars — several of Bangkok’s best are tucked away here.
- Japanese food around the community malls off Thonglor.
Local tip: Thonglor is long. Hop on a motorbike taxi from BTS Thong Lo rather than walking it in the midday heat.
Getting here
- BTS Thong Lo or BTS Ekkamai. From Suvarnabhumi, a taxi is often faster than the train here — see the comparison.
